Sytyck-päivitykset kuten muutkin blogipäivitykset ovat olleet osaltani varsin vähissä. Joulu aiheutti kiireitä villasukka-rintamalla ja muutenkin elämä on ollut yhtä matalalentoa. Nyt on kuitenkin Sytyck-tiivistelmän aika.

Haasteena oli siis popping ja locking. Jo alusta asti suunnitelma oli osaltani selvä. Vaan kuinkas sitten kävikään.. se muuttui matkan aikana. Tavoitteenani oli opetella ja yhdistää kaksi itselleni uutta tekniikkaa, joista toinen liittyi tuohon varsinaiseen haasteeseen ja toista olen jo ajatellut pitkään. Sukkia kun on tullut tehtyä enemmän tai vähemmän (Nyt jo melkein kyllästymiseen asti) niin päätin pysyä sukissa tässäkin haasteessa. Ensimmäinen osani haasteen osalta oli opetella tekemään sukat kärjestä aloittaen. Tavoitteena oli myöhemmässä vaiheessa yhdistää toinen tekniikka siihen. Vaan ongelmia tuli jo heti alussa. Ei muuten, mutta kun en tykästynyt kärjestä aloitettaviin sukkiin sitten yhtään. Ihan toimiva tekniikka sinällään ja yhden parin sukkia sainkin kaverilleni kyseisellä tekniikalla tehtyä.

Samalla tulin tosin siihen tulokseen, että toiste ei kyseistä tekniikkaa tule käytettyä. Siispä tässä kohtaa suunnitelmat muuttuivat. Meidän suvussa on ollut monia käsityöihmisiä sukupolvesta toiseen, mutta tietääkseni vain yksi, tädin miehen äiti myöskin Kuhmon mummona tunnettu, hallitsi tämän kyseisen tekniikan. Joten siinäpä haastetta kerrakseen. Mutta voitin itselleni asettamani haasteen ja tekniikka on hallussa, joskin työ on vielä kesken. Keskeneräinen työ johtuu monesta aloituskerrasta ja purkamisesta. Milloin oli väärän kokoiset puikot, milloin silmukkamäärä ei toiminut tai jokin muu vain oli pielessä. Mutta nytpä toimii kaikki; puikot ovat pienemmät kuin mihin olen tottunut, mutta paksuhkon seiskaveikan kanssa toimii ensikauhisteluista huolimatta; oikea silmukkamäärä löytyi monien kokeilujen ja laskelmien jälkeen. Ja sukille löytyy jo saajakin. Siispä katsokaa ja ihailkaa: konttineuletta villasukissa.

Tietysti näihin(kin) sukkiin tulee konttineuleen lisäksi pääkalloja, tyylilleen täytyy pysyä uskollisena. ;D Ja mikä parasta, vaikka muuten alkaakin olemaan olo, että olen kurkkuani myöden täynnä villasukkien tekoa ja seiskaveikkaa ja haluaisin tehdä jotain muuta välillä, kuten vaikkapa tehdä valmiiksi ne kolme keskeneräistä villapaitaa, niin tämä työ jaksaa kiinnostaa. Aikaa sukkaparin valmiiksi saaminen varmasti vie, mutta ainakin vielä kiinnostusta riittää. Ja tämä on hyvää harjoittelua sitä erästä villapaitaa ajatellen.. langat ovat odottaneet jo kauan ja ohje vielä kauemmin, mutta jonain päivänä.. :)

Lopultakin SYTYCK-projektin ensimmäiset silmukat luotu... vähän jälkijunassa tullaan, mutt sen tiesin jo suunnitteluvaiheessa.. eli siis ihan aikataulussa.. omassani. :)

Slowly getting ready for the SYTYCK challenge. Bought myself yarn already, going to stick with the usual, 7 veljestä (=7 brothers) but the other colour isn't what I would call as a normal choise for me. Of course the other colour is black as expected but the other one is lime green. Can't wait to start knitting... but need to wait still for awhile. Tonight at 6pm it starts.. Spending my waiting time knitting woollen socks, friends have woken up again as the weather is getting colder.. just wonder when will I finnish those pullovers I started at least a year ago..?!?

Pikkuhiljaa valmistautumassa SYTYCK haasteeseen. Langat on jo ostettu, pysyttelen tutussa ja turvallisessa Seiskaveikassa mutta väri ei olekaan ihan normaali valinta meikäläiselle. Toinen väri on tietysti musta kuten tavallista, mutta se toinen on limenvihreä. Tuskin maltan odottaa, että pääsen kutomaan.. mutta vielä täytyy odottaa hetki. Tänään klo 18 se alkaa.. Kulutan aikaa kutomalla villasukkia, kaverit on havahtuneet hereille taas kun ilmat kylmenee.. koskakohan sitä ehtis saamaan valmiiks ne pari villapaitaa jotka alotin ainakin vuosi sitten..?!?

I haven't showed you people anything new for ages. That's mostly because I haven't done anything new just fixing old. I've started a couple of new project but they are still unfinished. But I haven't been just lazying around I took part in a knitting challenge SYTYCK, named after the TV-show "So you think you can dance". I chose the knitting style to myself, had a couple that suited me pretty well, but I ended up choosing quickstep because obviously I've been lately knitting mostly those woollen socks.

Today I found out the style for my challenge. Popping and Locking. What a perfect style for me, really!!! I have very clear vision about what I'll do with this challenge. There's two techniques I've been wanting to learn but haven't found the inspiration or time to do it and now I've got the perfect excuse to beat two at once. So.. there's only one problem left.. choosing the yarn.. ;)

En ole näyttänyt sivullani aikoihin mitään uusia tekeleitä. Suurelta osin siitä syystä, että en ole saanut mitään uutta valmista vaan pikemminkin korjaillut vanhaa. Pari uutta, mutta ah niin keskeneräistä projektia toki pyörii aina nurkissa.. Mutta jotta aikani ei olisi mennyt täysin laiskottelun puolelle, otin osaa SYTYCK-neulehaasteeseen, joka on saanut nimensä televisio-ohjelman "So yo think you can dance" mukaan. Tanssityyleissä olisi ollut parikin sopivaa, mutta päädyin valinnassani quickstep:iin, koskapa noita villasukkia on viime aikoina eniten tullut tehtyä.

Tänään sain varsinaisen haasteeni, joka on popping ja locking. Varsin hyvin osunut tyyli, etten sanoisi. Tulevan haasteen toteutuksesta on jo hyvin selkeä visio, sillä olen jo pidempään pyöritellyt parin uuden tekniikan opettelua, mutta aikaa ja energiaa ei muka ole koskaan ollut riittävästi. Nyt siihen on loistava tekosyy ja lyönkin tässä haasteessa kaksi kärpästä yhdellä iskulla. Nyt on jäljellä enää yksi ongelma.. langan valinta.. ;)

My brother gave me a challenge: make him something with the New Jersey Devils -logo on.. So he got woollen socks with the logo as a birthday present (Congratz lil' brother - 16th April - 29 years!!!). To the bottom of the socks I even made the player number of Martin Brodeur (Brother said he's the best NJ Devil, who am I to tell differently, I support Jokerit in Finnish league and Florida Panthers in NHL..?!).

Have finished several projects but been just too tired to write about them and load up the pictures. But here comes finally some I've worked with lately.

1. Perfect Ten - the name comes from the fact that each sock have ten skulls on them.

A beanie for a friend of mine. Riku is a musician with tattoos and such and he started studying nature, fishing and hunting.. Made this design for him.. and him only. Named it Hirvivaara (Warning: elks.. or Moose danger..?!?) because the skull has moose antlers and a warning sign behind it. This should keep his head warm but the man himself pretty cool. ;)

Here is the package I sent to my Secret Valentine 2010, Kirsikka. The beanie has 14 hearts because the Valentine's day is on February 14th. Her blog has that certain type of old country romance vibe to it, so I got my colours from there. She also had some beautiful pictures of pillows with lace on them, so at the last minute I added those three laces to the package when walked by Eurokangas.

Can you imagine, I made something without skulls.. ;) HAPPY VALENTINE!!

The package revealed self-made card with lace and red hearts on it, a felted heart with magnet (my personal favourite), key chain with two crocheted hearts and some turquise beads, a white crocheted flower-brooch with a red heart in the middle and a crocheted cover for camera or mobile phone. From the card I found out who was my Secret Valentine..

I've started January with several projects. So every time I get tired with one I'll just take another one and continue with that. The other reason for doing several project at the same time is the lack of time. I want to do something for myself. My nephew needs woolen pants. My cousin ordered socks for her and her husband and I promised to start with their socks right after Christmas. I got an idea for two of my friend's socks. And all the time I have is January. I've been already asked if I'll take new orders for socks and I've said that first new orders I take will be in February.. And the time flies by. Anyway, here is a quick look of what I'm working with at the moment.

The first picture is of my old pullover. I haven't used it for many years and finally I desided to felt it but then I came up with the idea that before felting I'll take off arms of the pullover and use them to my nephew's woolen pants. If I now start knitting them from scratch he'll probably get them next year and then they'll already be to small. So this is a fast and fun way to do them. And it saves time!! The picture next to the pullover is a cable project for myself. When I started this project I had no idea what the yarn was but inside from the first ball I found it's secret. The yarn I got from my mum, she had found it from the cellar from her storage room. The yarn is OLD!! But it's soft, it isn't itchy and I kinda like the colours, although I think there could have been more of the grey and less of the white..

Then there's socks again. These are for me. I think I've hit my head or something because lately I've found myself buying clothes and yarns with some other colours than black. But black needs some colour to its side, I guess.. (She says while wearing nothing but black. Except the grey woolen socks and a white scarf around her neck..) But lime green?? Not at all my colour. My colours are black, grey, brown, red and white, with maybe a hint of dark green, violet or denim blue here and there.. Well, I bought a pullover from sale with black and, can you imagine, GRASS GREEN stripes... Maybe I'm getting sick or something.. The next picture is a beanie I'm doing for Reija who won my Christmas lottery. She wished that she could get a beanie because she hadn't any. It's almost ready, it just misses some small details. ;)

I've actually finished one project. Remember the wrist warmer I made for my father?! Here's a pair to it. It's grey because I have other plans for the rest of the blue yarn that was left from the first wrist warmer. This one got a single, lonely button to it for decoration but also to tell wich side goes where. My father didn't want for this one the loop around the thumb. The button anyway allows one to make a loop that can be taken off. I didn't make loose loop for this version but it's the original idea behind the button.

In a way that makes sence because she is the one who has commented the most, so congratz for the winner. But I want to thank all of you people who have been reading and leaving comments to me to my project blog. Next project will probably be ready somewhere around the New year.. I'm taking a short break in doing handicrafts. Besides, I still have to publish the actual presents I've been giving you hints of in my Christmas calendar. I got these photo albums few years ago but on the covers were some dull adverts so I took my drawing kit and made these pictures to hide the adverts. These pink socks I made for a friend by request.

Pink flower brooch I sent to that same friend in addition that she waited so patiently for the socks. The black flower ring I made for myself and wore it at my cousin's wedding.

These black socks with skulls and no crossbones went for the same address as the the pink socks but for her husband. The original model is "We call them pirates" but my friend's husband didn't want the cross bones with the skull so I took off everything but the skull itself.

Reija asked me there in the comments of my main blog (Life between heaven and hell) if I am going to include my art projects and handicrafts to my blog and I answered that probably.
